Charge - Kings Cross EP

1981 Test Pressing Records

Allright, I hear what you're saying, maybe the vocals are a little "over-the-top" at times. You might even say they're a little bit "flamboyant", but one thing's for sure, this is one hell-of-a catchy little record. Three great, upbeat, jangly bits of early UK punk.

Can't say I've ever run across another person that likes or, for that matter, is even all that aware of this band. Perhaps it's because they only put out two 7-inches of what one might call "punk" before transitioning into the "post-punk" world. Or maybe it's pictures, like the one below from Punk! Lives, that turned some people off. Nevertheless, here it is.

I saw 'em in '82 supporting The Damned, and they weren't that memorable... but these songs are okay...

Yeah, their later material is pretty horrible and more than a little bit embarassing. That's why I was so suprised when i picked this one up on a whim and is was actually pretty cool.

I´ve got an 4-song ep with this band which is good and a lot better than this one.
It´s called "destroy the youth" and it resembles a bit of The pack, another UK band with Kirk Brandon prior to Theatre of hate which he also participated in.

Yeah, Destroy the Youth is the other good one. That's also their fastest song.

They had a 7" before this one on the YCAFO label in 1979. It's comped on V/A "Punk Territory #4" CD and one song on V/A "Teenage Treats #8" LP. "Rather B Crazy" is the hit.

The sound is more mellow, but it's pre-hc punk not post-punk. The record is tough to find but fairly unknown.

'King's Cross' is a great track! I had it on a comp tape from a friend from England and always got it confused with the Subhumans (UK)
Thanks for posting this!!!
